1- According to its use:
Engines are classified according to their application areas..
a- Marine type for use on ships
b- Industrial type used in generators, compressors and pumps
c- Karayolu taşıtlarında kullanılan otomotiv tip
d- Traction type used in locomotives and trains
2- According to the speed:
Industrial motors are generally examined in 3 speed classes.
a- High Speed - Above 1000 rev/min
b- Medium Speed - Between 400 rev/min - 1000 rev/min
c- Low Speed - up to 400 rev/min
For 50 Hz and 60 Hz applications;
50 Hz: 3000, 1500, 1000, 750, 600, 500 rpm
60 Hz: 3600, 1800, 1200, 900, 720, 600 rpm

Cylinders supply condition of air (such as ambient pressure or high pressure)
4- According to the size:
This classification is the most controversial of all, because the factors that determine engine size are; are different values such as number of cylinders, cylinder size, speed, average pressure. Starting from this point; The horsepower data per cylinder is used in the classification made by size.
Small type: below 25 hp/cyl
Medium type: from 25 to 200 hp/cyl
Large type: Above 200 hp/cyl
